Hughes is renowned for a set of five large paintings commissioned by Lord Calthorpe for his house in Grosvenor Square. The present work shows that he was equally dextrous working on a far smaller scale, with a wealth of exquisitely observed detail apparent, particularly in the texture of the surface of the fruit. |
