Ferdinand-Joseph Gueldry
Ferdinand-Joseph Gueldry, a French artist, was born May 21, 1858 in Paris and died 1945. He was a painter of animated compositions, landscapes, and nautical scenes. He was a student of J.L. Gerome. In 1878 he made his debut at the Paris Salon. In 1885, Gueldry won a third place medal, a silver medal in 1889 at the Universal Exposition, in 1900 a scholarship to travel abroad, and in 1908 was made a knight of the Legion of Honor. He frequently represented the life of workers in the workshop or in the factories. Later he concentrated on painting landscapes of riverbanks, lakes, and boating scenes.
