Richard Henry Nibbs
Born and resident throughout his life in Brighton, Nibbs is believed to have been self-taught. For many years he played in the Theatre Royal Orchestra, but after having been left a substantial sum of money in 1840, he was able to concentrate full time on painting. His subjects were for the most part coastal views of Sussex, France and Holland, which he exhibited between the years 1840 and 1888 at the Royal Academy and various other institutions.
