Victor Dupont was a successful turn of the century French painter of genre, streetscape, portraits and interior scenes. Born on July 12, 1875 in Boulogne-sur-Mer, He studied at the 'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lille and at the Academie de Boulogne from 1895 to 1901. There he studied the works of Piere-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Independants in 1903, and at the Salon d'Automne in 1904. His works can be found in the Museum de L'Oise in France.
DuPont's paintings often feature regal women browsing through open air markets. This style, made popular by fellow French painter Victor Gilbert, who began exhibiting his Parisian street scenes approximately ten years prior to Dupont's emergence. Ths style proved to be very popular with the Parisian art collectors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and this popularity continues today.
