Albert Lebourg

Born in Montfort sur Risle, Lebourg studied at the Evreux Lycée then at the Art School in Rouen and is considered to be a true Normand Artist. Lebourg began his education at the Ecole des beaux-arts of Rouen, then continued his training at the Ecole des beaux-arts of Bris and finished it in an architect's studio. After his meeting with a famous Collector, Laperlier, he was appointed Art teacher at the Fine Art School in Algiers where he will reside between 1872 and 1876. Back in France he traveled extensively in Normandy and especially along the Seine River, Paris, Bougivalle, Rouen, Hondouville, Honfleur. He joined the impressionistic movement very early and participated twice in the group's exhibitions. In 1896 the Mancini Gallery in Paris staged an important exhibition of his work, drawings, watercolours and oil paintings, which were received with acclaimed success. Lebourg was made Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1903.
