Augustus E. Mulready

Augustus Mulready was a genre painter and a member of the Cranbrook Colony, with Webster, F.D. Hardy, Horsley and G.B. O’Neill. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1863-1880. He usually painted London street scenes, especially of street urchins, flower sellers and children. Titles at the Royal Academy include: ‘Uncared For’, ‘Stop my Hat’, ‘A Little Creditor’, etc. Mulready was one of the few artists to record without too much sentiment the every day street scenes of Victorian life. Mulready died c.1886; works in a similar style after this date are probably by his son A.E. Mulready, Junior
