Sir William Quiller Orchardson R.A
Sir William Quiller Orchardson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He moved to London in 1862. He exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy, the British Institution, Grosvenor Gallery and the National Gallery in London, England. At first he painted historical genre, choosing subjects mainly from Shakespeare. Later he turned to psychological dramas of upper-class life. His technique was refined and distinctive and he used deliberately muted colors.
